Lauren + Chris: Engagement Session At Great Falls

This weekend Lauren and Chris will head out to Trump National Golf Course, stand atop the waterfall and say their vows before friends and family. But, before we get to that point, Lauren and Chris had a quick little engagement session this July.

Great Falls is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to do engagement sessions, and my third visit there with a couple led to us discovering even more fun spots to shoot. After starting off at one of the overlooks we headed down the river trail  to do some exploring. Unfortunately a few of the spots I had previously visited were blocked due to construction. We did, however, find a new formation a few yards down from the overlook that provided us with some much needed cover from the sun, and a couple of great photos. Lauren, ever the trooper, had no issues climbing up some rocks in her dress and heels to get the shot.

After a quick change, Lauren and Chris showed off their love of Alfred Morris, even if they are a house divided. Lauren rocked her #46 Washington Redskins Morris jersey while Chris had no problem showing off his loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys despite being in the heart of Redskins country.

Despite the summer heat Great Falls once again provided me with an amazing backdrop for the beautiful couple. Lauren and Chris, can’t wait to celebrate with you two this weekend.

Kellie + Zach At Trump National Golf Club

July 4th weekend started off in style with Kellie and Zach’s wedding finally arriving. I met Kellie at a bridal show in January of last year, and have been patiently waiting for her wedding at Trump National Golf Course. The waterfall at Trump National creates a dreamscape for any wedding (it’s also one of my favorite locations to shoot). With weather always being an issue in the DC area, we lucked out by avoiding both scorching heat and any mid-summer showers.

Fun fact: Kellie and a number of her bridesmaids are all Redskins cheerleaders.

Kellie and her bridesmaids spent the morning getting ready in the Trump townhouse while Zach and his groomsmen were out and about posing with their superhero alter-ego shirts. Zach, naturally, is on Team Superman. Once all the girls were ready in their beautiful blue gowns, they helped Kellie into her effortlessly stunning gown, sapphire blue Badgley Mischka heels, and not one but two NFL garters. Kellie surprised Zach with a Buffalo Bills garter as well as a Washington Redskins garter to show off her love of their favorite teams.

Fun fact: The gal who caught the bouquet became newly single the day before the wedding, proving this was a day filled with good vibes.

After an emotional and personal ceremony that left no eyes dry, the couple took to their reception with even more style. For their first dance, the newlyweds left it all on the dance floor. But they weren’t the only ones who brought the moves for their special day; Kellie and her father shared a fun, choreographed dance that made the entire room pause and gaze with envy and delight.

Kellie and Zach’s wedding was uniquely elegant—two things that don’t necessarily always go together. They make a fantastic couple and their day was one of the most special ones to date.

Mallory + Nik’s Weekend Engagement Shoot

Mallory and Nik aren’t tying the knot until this summer, down in St. John’s, but before they head to the beach for their “I do’s”, we spent some time together celebrating their engagement.

The weekend started off in style at the Lincoln Memorial on a chilly February night before heading over to the W Hotel for dinner and drinks.  The party continued the next night out at Stone Tower Winery.

What I thought would be a small gathering of friends turned out to be a full on reception with a killer band, step and repeat, toasts, cake cutting and some amazing deserts.

Congratulations, Mallory and Nik!

Jill + Sean’s Bull Run Winter Engagement Session

For the longest time I’ve wanted to do an engagement session, or wedding, in the snow. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to do that until this past winter, when I worked with Jill and Sean at Bull Run Winery.

Despite living only a few miles away from the winery, I had only been there once and had never had a photo shoot there. It was Jill’s suggestion to start our day at Bull Run Winery, and I quickly realized how much I had been missing. The venue was beautiful and the snow just added to the magic.

Jill and Sean were troopers when it came to trudging through, and sitting in, the snow. And that ring! I can’t even tell you how in love I am with the photos of Jill’s ring in the snow. It was a happy accident to catch the sunlight at just the right angle to get the beautiful gleam you see in the photo below.

Next we headed over to Stone Bridge, which sits at the entrance to Manassas National Battlefield Park. I love being able to incorporate a little history into a fun and modern shoot. Jill brought her dog along for this part of the day, and, as you can see, he was a fun little addition to the photos. Overall, I truly enjoyed finally getting to do a photo shoot in the snow and Jill and Sean were the perfect couple to make that happen!

Favorite Sports Photographs Of 2015

Last year I made a more concerted effort to photograph more sporting events, with the goal to at long last cover an NFL game and get back into the camera wells at a Washington Nationals game.

Unfortunately, I was unable to reach those goals, but I finally found myself baseline at the University of Maryland for their match-up against the University of Wisconsin, and back at a racetrack at the Red Bull Global Rallycross race at RFK Stadium.

And, of course, I joined the Washington Kastles for the fifth straight year as they once again dominated WorldTeam Tennis en route to a six championship.  Below are some of my favorite sports photos of the year.
