Heather & Justin’s Summer Trump National Wedding Celebration

Months after Heather and Justin’s charming cherry blossom-sprinkled engagement shoot  (complete with another set of shots taken against a City Center DC backdrop), their big day finally arrived!

Let me assure you that it was every bit as marvelous as you would imagine.

Before heading over to the venue to get primped, pampered and painted by Silverceiling, the bride and her girlfriends got into the celebratory mood by donning matching black monogrammed tanks—Heather wore the same one but hers was white, naturally. These festivities also led to the reveal of some supremely glitzy sneakers that Justin had gifted his bride-to-be, along with a touching, super sweet note.

In case you were curious, Heather had given her beau of framed photo of the two of them.

By the time came to finally walk down the aisle, Heather looked positively radiant in a custom Vera Wang gown—which she oh-so-elegantly paired with kicky Badgley Mischka heels—while Justin opted for a classically cool Calvin Klein suit/tux. The two lovebirds were clearly smitten with one another and it was lovely to see them basking in the excitement of their friends and families.

Divine floral arrangements by Maryam Flowers added an extra touch of polish to the already-suave affair and guests danced the evening/night away, thanks, no doubt, in part to the fantastic melodies from Posh Life Entertainment’s Brian Sadiarin. Heather and Justin also had a heartwarming display  of beautiful photos (with cards noting their connection to the bride and groom) to loved ones who passed away by displaying an array of on a memorial table.

Attendees were lucky enough to also dip into slices of cake (from the ever-extraordinary Cakes by Linda), as they celebrated the new Mr. & Mrs. in style.

Other highlights (and yes, there were many!), included the duo’s vintage car exit and a late-night Chick-fil-A pick-me-up snack session.

Kudos to the masterminds at Trump National for their top-notch work in all arenas as well.

Honestly, it was such a pleasure to be able to witness—and to photograph, of course—this delightful couple. Seems that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way about these two either; I was told that every single guest RSVP-ed yes to the wedding. Incredible!

Heather + Justin’s Charming Cherry Blossom-Sprinkled Engagement Shoot

I first met up with beautiful bride-to-be Heather to talk wedding day details back in 2015, so it is safe to say that this wedding was in the works for quite some time.

The reason why planning took place so early was a great one; Heather really wanted to take engagement photos against a gorgeous backdrop of cherry blossoms.

Can’t argue with that.

Her extremely glamorous LaFemme dress was truly marvelous; she had ordered it specifically for the engagement photoshoot and it was quite the head-turner. Justin was similarly dapper in a grayish-blue suit. This couple really looked every inch the style stars!

Despite the early start, and not being much of a morning person, we had an amazing time together during our session. We capped off their stunning shoot with Heather and Justin enjoying some celebratory bubbly. It was also a treat to be able to play around with shadows when the sun wasn’t in the equation. In fact, this actually allowed me to take a few pretty interesting shots, which I think turned out rather spectacularly.

After we wrapped up that image-capturing session, we popped over to City Center DC for a quick zip under the cherry blossom lanterns that had been draped above the streets. The love birds switched their outfits up a bit, opting for a more laid-back (yet still fantastically chic) vibe.

It was really a fun day, all in all. They are clearly besotted with one another and it was a pleasure to be able to have such an open, energetic pair in front of the lens.

Stick around for event more photos of this couple—their wedding is right around the corner.

Country Club at Woodmore New Menu Food Photography

Earlier this year I reconnected with one of my favorite people in the world, Mary Hudgins. Mary was the former event/catering manager at a golf course in Virginia and responsible for bringing me in on just about every wedding I had there in 2016.

Unfortunately, Mary is no longer with the club but has since settled in to her new role as GM at the Country Club at Woodmore.

After mentioning to Mary that I wanted to update some of my food photos, we set up a time for me to head out to Maryland and fire off a few shots for their new menu.

Thanks for letting me come take over a few bar tables for a couple hours, Mary!

Ashley + Chris Tie The Knot At Sequoia In Washington Harbour

It is always an honor to witness two people so deeply in love celebrate against a strikingly beautiful backdrop and this wedding did just that.

Then bride-to-be Ashley actually managed to plan her big day from afar: Florida, to be exact. Now, as anyone who has ever played wedding planner knows, that is no small feat.

Friends and family came together for the couple’s rehearsal dinner at Malmaison, the night before the wedding took place. There, the attendees toasted to Ashley and Chris’ love while eating and sipping on top-notch dishes and drinks.

The next morning, as final touches were being made to their wedding venue and reception hall, half a mile away, the bride and groom stepped into their dress and tuxedo at Avenue Suites in Georgetown. Not long after, they arrived at Sequoia in Washington Harbour, eager to begin the festivities.

Ashley looked radiant as she walked down the aisle in a magnificent Vera Wang gown. She and her dapper groom exchanged “I dos” beneath a lovely petal blue art piece, which was complemented beautifully by chic décor and beautifully-draped sheer white curtains.

Once rings were slipped on and vows were made, we headed over to the harbor and attempted to photograph the bride on one of the boats. Unfortunately, this was not to be as we were not permitted to walk onto the boats. However, one of the boat owners toasted the bride and groom with shots of tequila right there on the deck!

Overall, the reception was simply spectacular; there were incredible centerpieces and stunning views of the harbor. The joyous atmosphere was helped, no doubt, by the musical stylings of Scot Diggs and Elite Mixers Entertainment and elevated even further by treats from Fluffy Thoughts Bakery. All of these came together and made it an evening that will never be forgotten.

Carrie + Dan Spring Hill Farm Wedding

I first met up with Carrie and Dan earlier this year at one of my favorite haunts, Crystal City’s Good Stuff Eateryto discuss their wedding while we enjoyed some amazingly delicious shakes.

Their selected venue was beautiful.  Spring Hill, a privately-owned farm in Warrenton, Virginia offers sweeping views of over 1,700 acres of marvelous landscape. Amazingly enough, their wedding was one of the very few, if not the only, weddings that has taken place here.

It had been raining almost nonstop for days, and everyone was crossing their fingers and hoping that the rain that was sprinkling down on them would hold off once the wedding day rolled around. Luckily, a few hours before the ceremony the rain finally let up and the couple was able to walk down the aisle under sunny skies.

Adorned in a gorgeous Amsale gown and surrounded by a sea of glowing bridesmaids, each of which had chosen their own unique dress, Carrie looked stunning as she prepared to exchange vows with her husband-to-be.

After the beautifully quaint ceremony came to a close, we hopped into a golf cart and zoomed off to snap portraits of the newlyweds. I had previously spotted a lovely archway of trees and immediately knew that I had to capture Carrie and Dan in front of this stunning backdrop.  From there we took a series of photos in a few other choice locations across the grounds. Then, the couple returned to the cocktail hour festivities.

The “garden party” reception had a decidedly rustic vibe, which paired perfectly with cute details like photos of their grandparents wedding day and delicious bites, including amazing barbecue dishes from Old Blue BBQ and a tantalizing cake station.

It was undoubtedly a hit with guests. Highlighted by her 90-year-old grandmother dropping her cane to dance to Bruce Springsteen on the grass dance floor.

All in all, this wedding was a great success! It was an honor to be able to witness the love and the joy firsthand and I wish Carrie and Dan all the best!
