A Review Of Lucky Camera Straps’ Wrist Strap

A few months ago I came across a camera strap company on Instagram by the name of Lucky Camera Straps. I currently use a Black Rapid for most of my work so I wasn’t necessarily in the market for a new strap but I wouldn’t mind having something to replace the generic ones that came with my cameras.

One thing I’ve always wanted to get is a hand for my portrait sessions, or any other type of shoot that doesn’t require a full on camera strap.

Lucky Camera Straps caught my attention not only because they offered some beautiful-looking leather straps, but they had a really nice looking wrist strap so I went ahead and ordered one.

When the strap arrived, from Australia, I was immediately impressed with the quality of the strap. Lucky Straps has clearly taken the time and research to find some of the most comfortable leather around and truly do make a beautiful camera strap. I was in love with this thing and could see myself using this more often than not.  Then I put it on my camera.

Cool camera straps, I think it would wear on my wrist too much. I need as much weight dropping on my hips and legs. Does it make your wrist hurt?

Rich - December 31, 2015 - 12:07 pm

Carly, it actually doesn’t hurt at all. The D4s with a 24-70mm is a pretty hefty beast, but the strap really didn’t seem to pull, or dig into my skin too much. It actually hurt a little more when I wore it up around my forearm. Like I said, I love the strap, it’s comfortable and well made, I just wish I bought a larger one instead of the wrist strap. You’re welcome to test it out if you want.

Abby + Adam’s Inner Harbor Wedding

Back in March, Abby and Adam tied the knot at the Royal Sonesta in Baltimore. I’ve known Abby for years and she is one of my favorite people, so it was truly an honor to capture her wedding day.

After catching a few hours of sleep from a wedding the night before I headed up to Baltimore for the wedding. Thankfully, I was able to avoid any marathon traffic that was going on and got to the hotel early enough to check out the ceremony and reception rooms.

The Royal Sonesta had finished with their renovations and the rooms were setup perfectly for their first wedding since renovations were finished.abby + adam march 29 2015 (16 of 622)

We started out our day with a first look on Federal Hill, headed down to the Inner Harbor for some shots on a carousel and some sort of weird, tiny police car thing, before heading back inside so Abby and Adam could tie the knot, break a glass, dance the Horah and throw one of the best parties of 2015 so far. BadWolf Brewing’s Portrait Session

Last year I approached the owner of a local brewery about doing a portrait session with him at their location.

Unfortunately we were never able to connect on setting the shoot up at the time. It actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I was just starting out with portrait work, their location was rather cramped and I wouldn’t be able to effectively capture the look I was going for.

As time went on, BadWolf Brewery opened a second (and larger) location and I was able to spend the last year fine-tuning my ability to actually take a decent portrait of someone.A snap from BadWolf Brewing

Photos From The Red Bull Global Rallycross At RFK Stadium

The Red Bull Global Rallycross made its second trip to the Nation’s Capital over the weekend for the seventh race in the 2015 season. After submitting a request for media credentials a few weeks prior to the race, I was pleasantly surprised when I received the approval email.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure I would be approved, but it had been a few years since I shot anything motorsports-related and I was itching for the opportunity to do so. The email came only four days before the event, so I immediately began researching rally cross photos online. I also took advantage of the opportunity to pick up my credentials early and walked the track to scope out the best spots to shoot the race.

Unfortunately, we were limited to roughly a third of the track as there seemed to be a shortage of catch fencing. A few of my predetermined shooting locations were now off limits, but my prior review of the track paid off as I found myself the only photographer able to capture an accident in turn 4 and Sebastian Eriksson‘s jump one lap later without a left rear tire.

Thanks to the 300mm lens, I was also able to get some spectacular shots form afar, including race winner Nelson Piquet Jr‘s burnout. I have to say, leaning against a fence with a car screaming by inches from you and getting doused with champagne in the winner’s circle isn’t a bad way to spend a Saturday. View full post »

Kellie + Zach’s Great Falls Engagement Session

Over the 4th of July weekend, I finally had a chance to meet up with Kellie and Zach for their amazing engagement session. Zach currently lives out of town, so we were tight on scheduling and faced the threat of rain, but we were still able to get to Great Falls, brave the crowds and take some of my favorite pictures yet. I haven’t been to Great Falls since high school so it was nice to be back and to try a different location for a session.

If you’ve never been to Great Falls, you might not be aware that there is some rocky terrain in the area. Sadly, many of the spots I remember climbing seem to have been closed off, but that didn’t keep us from finding a nice secluded area to use for the shoot. A few brides might not enjoy climbing on the rocks for their engagement session, but Kellie was great about it.

To be fair, her status as a rookie Redskin cheerleader may have given her a slight advantage in agility and allowed us to get some unique shots—and yes, that is a real stone they’re holding.

It was an adventurous day that included some time along the falls, a quick outfit change by Kellie and a trek into the woods, which all resulted in some absolutely amazing photos. I can’t wait for the chance to hang out with and photograph this couple again at their wedding, unfortunately for me it isn’t until July 2016.
