White House Correspondents Dinner Weekend part 1. {Washington DC Photographer}

Saturday night the White House Correspondents Dinner, aka Nerd Prom, hosted it’s 100th event.  Before DC heavy hitters, politicians and Hollywood a-listers descended on the Washington Hilton Friday saw a host of parties spread out all over town.  I’ve always wanted to cover this weekend, and for the first time in my career I was invited to cover some of these events for Hollywood on the Potomac.  My first event was at the Longview Gallery where HBO and POLITICO were hosting a screening for the documentary “Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro Sr.”

 After a nice walk to the Hay Adams Hotel with fellow photog Alexander Morozov I headed up to the ninth floor for the 5th Annual Voto Latino party.  Maria Teresa Kumar welcomed a packed crowd before handing the mic over to Wilmer Valderrama, who you may remember as Handy Manny or perhaps Fez from a tin little show called ‘That 70’s Show.’

My final stop for the evening was at the United States Institute of Peace for the Google/Netflix red carpet.  I’m not going to lie I was a little starstruck at the whole thing.  This was my first time ever doing any sort of event with actors, let alone actors who were/are on some of my favorite shows and someone like Robert DeNiro.  The highlight of Friday night, for me, was when Professor X himself, Sir Patrick Stewart walked around the corner and hit the red carpet.  Apologies to the cast from House of Cards and Modern Family, but it’s Professor X!!!!!  C’mon!
